Belarusian is one of three East European languages, branching out separately in today’s linguistics. Around 7-8 million speak the language. Apparently similar to Russian and Ukrainian, Belarusian is peculiar, though, in many respects. What is different is spelling dominated by phonetics. Lexics retaining quite a few archaic Slavic words from the ancient times (vioska, piarun, vaviorka). Phonetics bent for a strong use of [a:] instead of ustressed [o:], diphthong dz, presence of short [u] (spelt like ў), hard hushing sound and absence of soft r.
A person without a perfect command of Belarusian is poorly placed to translate a diploma, birth certificate, or a medical insurance policy. The experts of the Tallinn-based ATCG agency will be there to help you with Belarusian translations of any area-related document.
The language situation in Belarus is complicated by two types of orthography available. The official norm is Cyrillic type of writing as revised in 1933 and 1959, also dubbed as narkomovka (stemming from the People Commissariat). It dominates publications. However, the Internet has more of early «tarashkevitsa» (stemming from Tarashkevich, compiler’s name) which is considered by most people to be more traditional and consistent with the spirit of Belarusian. The ATCG experts get along well with both Belarusian orthograhies and ready to accommodate the toughest deadlines to translate a literary text, website contents, letter, newspaper article from/into Belarusian.
In a Belarusian text, Cyrillic alphabet is primarily used, however, some companies transcribe their documents in Latin. Our translators are well-versed in translations from Cyrillic into Latin and will always be there to help you draft your documents properly.
In oral interpretations from/into Belarusian at informal functions, small talks may include a touch of so called «trasianka» which is a mix of Belarusian and Russian dominated by Russian vocabulary and Belarusian phonetics and grammar. The ATCG experts speak Belarusian as well as native speakers which is why their interpretation of your speech into Belarusian will be purely literary and your counterpart will be interpreted without a single error.
