Czech

The Czech Republic proved to be a vibrant and thriving economy among all post-Communist countries. Many enterprises and companies seek to forge business ties with the Czech partners. The Tallinn-based ATCG agency may well be of assistance.

The Czech language belongs to the West European languages, spoken by twelve million. The early Czech writings dating back to the 13th – 14th centuries used the language of central Czech lands. But as the Catholic church, German lords and city noblemen emerged as a power, the Czech language was kept down to give way to German and Latin. Czech came back to life only in the late 18th century, with a literary tongue at its core, which is why today’s Czech language contains a score of archaisms unlike the informal colloquial language. The colloquial language splits into several groups of dialects: Czech, Central Moravian, and Eastern Moravian.

The Czech language is the most difficult across the Slavic group. The Latin alphabet would lack letters to reflect a number of its phonetic peculiarities, that is why the Czech alphabet in the 15th century brought into use the diacritic signs hacek and carka placed above the letters. But a major phonetic challenge is lacking vowels in some words and even in the whole phrases and unvarying first-syllable stress, however long the word. 13 declensions and 13 conjugations available in the literary language are clear-cut evidence of how difficult the Czech vocabulary is. Czech translations of technical documents, medical certificates or accounting reports are a challenge even to an experienced translator. The ATCG experts have a perfect command of Czech and will handle any type of document impeccably.

Unlike Polish or Russian, the Czech language has nearly no loanwords. The Czechs preferred to coin new artificial terms, building on Slavic roots. Quite a few words, pronounced similarly to other Slavic languages but totally different by meaning are often a hindrance to the right perception. You will hardly do without an experienced translator at the talks with Czech partners, conferences, workshops and private functions. The ATCG translators are Estonia’s best. Should you apply for our assistance, your international profile will shoot up shortly!
