Turkish

Today’s Turkish is a member of the South-Eastern (or Western Oghuz) sub-group of the Turkic languages. Turkish is spoken in Turkey, Northern Cyprus, Northern Iraq, Syria, Bulgaria, and in some Balkan countries. Its speakers across the world include roughly 70 million. Before 1928 the Turkish script contained letters from the Persian and Arab systems of writing. In 1928, with a view to modernizing Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk changed the Arab letters to the Latin with slight modifications. For the time being, the Arab script completely came out of use.

New Turkish shaped up in the first half of the 19th century – early 20th century as the medieval literary language rich in Arab and Persian words joined together with the popular language, in the wake of democratic transformations in Turkey.

There are multiple Turkish dialects: Istanbul, Danubian, Eskişehir, Razgrad, Dinler, Rumelian, Karamanli, etc. Standard Turkish is based on the Istanbul dialect.

Modified Turkish preserved a large number of Persian and Arab loanwords pronounced to a major part in line with the standards of Turkish. Such words have no exact equivalents in any language, that is why a translator may only convey their general meaning which will require a rich vocabulary, beyond any doubt. The ATCG staff speak Turkish as well as native speakers. Translations, however difficult, will be handled in an impeccable and prompt fashion.

The word order in the sentence is another language peculiarity. The predicate is always placed in the end which affects the understanding of colloquial speech. Also, Turkish speech is usually emotionally coloured, to a large extent, which may keep the sense escaping. To organize talks with your Turkish partners, it makes sense to get in touch with the ATCG interpreters who will help you negotiate, set up a conference or a workshop at any time.
